FAWNA advice: what to do if you find injured wildlife.

    1. Phone FAWNA on 0438 526 660 or the DBCA Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055.

    2. Note the location, time of day and condition of the animal where you found it.

    3. Follow the advice from the call centre operator. They will put you in touch with the nearest wildlife rehabilitator that can take the animal into care.

    4. Contain the animal securely so that it does not injure itself further or injure you – use a towel or similar to pick it up and place in a secure, well ventilated box in a quiet, dark place. Do not feed the animal or give it water unless you have been advised to do so.

    5. Be careful of teeth, claws, beaks etc. when approaching and handling wildlife. Injured animals can be very dangerous when frightened or stressed.

  • If you find an injured or wandering domestic animal, please contact the City of Busselton Rangers on (08) 9781 0444.

If you find a pet during business hours, you can bring it to us and we’ll scan its microchip to help locate its owner.

  • Pet insurance is becoming increasingly popular in Australia and we encourage our clients to take out pet insurance where appropriate.

Pet Insurance will give you peace of mind that you can provide an excellent level of care for your animal should they should they become unwell or involved in a trauma. Veterinary care for unforeseen situations like snake bite and vehicle trauma can be expensive, and pet insurance can help ease the financial burden.

We do not recommend any specific insurance company but are happy to refer our clients to consumer advocacy groups such as choice.com.au who routinely offer comparison between companies.

The feedback from our clientele is such that we are happy to recommend insurers that are signed up to the "GapOnly" service which makes quality veterinary care more easily workable in a modern families’ budget.

    GapOnly

GapOnly is a scheme which most pet insurers have signed up to and allows your pets claim to be assessed whilst you wait, or before you come to collect your pet if admitted.

In this way your insurer will pay the veterinary hospital directly, leaving you to only pay the "gap" between the total cost of the veterinary services and what you insurer will pay.

The traditional claim process had you paying the veterinary hospital for all costs incurred, with a reimbursement then made by the insurance company to you some time later.

We think GapOnly offers our clients an excellent alternative and are happy to facilitate the service from our end.

There are some limitations around what time of day and day of the year GapOnly claims can be made.

  • Grooming & Bath Services

Unfortunately due to ongoing operational difficulties around the COVID pandemic, as of January 2022 we are no longer offering grooming services.

Long term, we remain committed to offering grooming appointments for our regular clientele but cannot see this being possible in the intermediate future. It is likely following the end of the pandemic that we may be able to reinstate a regular grooming service and will make an announcement accordingly when that time arrives.

In the mean time we have compiled a list of local groomers whom we have spoken to and are happy for us to pass on their contact details. Where possible they may be able to assist you and your pet with a grooming services:
